Lovage / Levisticum Officinalis Koch

Lovage, depending on its origin, is an annual or perennial plant belonging to the Apiaceae family. Lovage is known as a robust and durable culinary herb used in various fashions. Lovage is very common in the Romanian cuisine such as in the famous ciorbă soup. Lovage can be used to upgrade the flavor of roasts, casseroles, sauces and soups, and well as for seasoning salads. The thick root of the plant can also be used by turning the root into a sweet product, a candy or a tablet, which renders a refreshing feeling and prevents bad breath.
In popular medicine, similar to its counterpart celery, the herb is used to soothe stomachache – this inherent property is well documented from ancient Greek scripts through modern time pharmaceutical publications. Various medicinal ointments for cleansing and nurturing the skin are produced out of the plant’s roots.
